Since Boris left us today for his new home, where his new mother and father came to pick him up, I feel sentimental about his departure. He was so active, cute, and friendly with us and all the other cats. He also played a significant role in our breeding plan. His appearance showed that we were making progress toward our Golden Shaded British Shorthair breeding goals. So, I decided to write down some fun facts about him.
Fun Facts of a Cute Golden Shaded British Shorthair Boy:
- His first name isn’t actually Boris; it’s Jiaozi, which means “dumpling” 🥟 in English.
- We named him Jiaozi because when he was born, he got stuck for a while, and his feet turned purple from a lack of oxygen.
- In Chinese, the word for “purple feet” sounds like “Jiaozi.”
- So, we named him Jiaozi, and his brother Tangbao, which is another type of dumpling filled with soup. There’s a funny story about when Tangbao was young—he once peed on our bed. We joke that Cinnamon’s belly is full of “soup.”
- But why are they called Boris and Cinnamon now? Well, they are the third litter this year, and we decided to give them names starting with the letter “C” as “Cooper”. So, his name was originally Cooper, but his new parents chose to name him Boris when they adopted him.
- Boris is super active, like a little flash zipping around the house.
- He’s always curious about what you’re eating, so he’ll climb onto your lap and into your arms when you have food.
- He’s also very interested in whatever’s on the counter, but the moment he realizes we’ve noticed him, he runs off like a little thief.
- His best friend is Cinnamon because they were born together. At first, Boris was stronger and would pick on Cinnamon, but then Cinnamon grew into a strong, fluffy cat, and now it’s Boris who gets “bullied.”
- Their mother, Ethel, kind of forgot about them once they were weaned. She hisses at them when she sees them, not because she hates them, but because she’s jealous that the kittens get more attention. Ethel is very needy and loves to lie on our laps.
