About Adoption

Can I Visit Your Cattery Before Deciding to Adopt?

We would love to welcome everyone to our cattery; however, as we live on-site, we must limit visits to individuals who are already on our waiting list or have made a reservation. This policy helps us maintain a safe and healthy environment for our kittens while minimizing the risk of infections.

How Can I Join the Waiting List and Is It Refundable?

To join our waiting list, please check our current status and contact us for an estimated wait time. We require a deposit of CAD 500 to secure your place on the list. This deposit is fully refundable if you do not find a kitten you love within two years. We look forward to helping you find your perfect feline companion!

Can I Take a Kitten Without It Being Neutered/Spayed?

We prioritize the integrity of our bloodlines and do not support backyard breeding. Therefore, we recommend adopting kittens after they have been neutered/spayed. If you prefer to adopt a kitten before this procedure, we require a neuter deposit of 2000-3000 CAD. This deposit is fully refundable once you have your kitten neutered within the specified time frame. Thank you for understanding our commitment to responsible breeding practices!

What is Your Retirement Plan for Your Breeding Cats?

We typically retire our breeding cats at around 4 to 5 years old. Some will continue to live with us, while others will be rehomed with trusted families, often our previous customers. This ensures that they receive the love and care they deserve in their retirement years.

How Do You Decide the Price of a Kitten?

Deciding on the price of our kittens is a thoughtful process rather than a random decision. We begin observing their development when they reach around 2 months old, as they are still growing before that age.

Our pricing is based on a combination of the qualities of their parents and the kittens’ current traits. We pay close attention to various features, including:

Ears: Size, position, and direction
Eyes: Size and shape
Nose: Width, length, and curve
Mouth: Overall fullness

While the color of the kitten’s coat can add to their charm, it is not a major factor in our pricing. We also consider the kitten’s bone structure and muscle size; however, since these aspects can be influenced by their diet, they are not as critical in our evaluation.

Ultimately, our goal is to ensure each kitten is fairly priced based on their unique characteristics and potential.

About the Breeding of British Shorthair and British Longhair Cats

What is the Purpose of Participating in a Cat Show?

We participate in cat shows to uphold our breeding standards and ensure they align with TICA’s guidelines for performance and behavior. These events serve multiple purposes:

1. Quality Assurance: Cat shows allow us to showcase our cats and receive evaluations from experienced judges. This feedback helps us maintain high breeding standards and identify areas for improvement.
2. Networking: Participating in cat shows provides a fantastic opportunity to connect with other breeders, share knowledge, and exchange ideas about breeding practices and cat care. Building these relationships can be invaluable for our growth as ethical breeders.
3. Community Engagement: Cat shows create a space for cat lovers to meet us and learn more about our breeding practices. It allows potential adopters to see our cats in person, understand their temperament, and ask questions about our cattery.
4. Promoting the Breed: By showcasing the beauty and charm of British Shorthair and British Longhair cats, we help raise awareness and appreciation for these breeds among the public.

Overall, participating in cat shows is an integral part of our commitment to ethical breeding and fostering a loving community of cat enthusiasts.

What Do You Feed Your Cats Daily?

To ensure our cats remain healthy and strong, we provide them with a balanced diet that includes both dry and canned food. Our feeding regimen consists of:

1. High-Quality Dry Food: We select premium dry cat food specifically formulated for British Shorthairs and Longhairs. This food provides essential nutrients, promotes dental health, and supports overall well-being.
2. Nutritious Canned Food: We complement their diet with high-quality canned food, rich in protein and moisture. This helps keep them hydrated and offers variety in their meals, which they enjoy.
3. Fresh Water: Access to fresh, clean water is crucial for their hydration and overall health. We ensure that our cats have constant access to water throughout the day.
4. Occasional Treats: We occasionally provide healthy treats to reward good behavior and strengthen our bond with them.

By carefully monitoring their diet and adjusting it based on their individual needs, we ensure that our cats receive the nutrition necessary for their growth and vitality.

How Often Do You Let the Female Cats Give Birth?

We prioritize the well-being of our mama cats and their adorable kittens. To ensure their health and happiness, we limit our females to a maximum of three litters every two years. Before breeding, we thoroughly assess their health to ensure they are in optimal condition, as this prevents any undue strain that could impact their well-being. By adhering to this practice, we maintain a nurturing environment for both our adult cats and their kittens.

Do You Raise Your Cats in Cages?

Absolutely not. Our cats enjoy the freedom to roam throughout our home. We only restrict their movements in specific circumstances, such as when a cat is ill or when a female is nursing her kittens. This approach allows them to thrive in a comfortable and loving environment.

How Do You Socialize Your Kittens?

We adopt a gentle and loving approach to socializing our kittens, ensuring they grow up to be friendly and well-adjusted. Here’s how we do it:

1. Time with Mom: For the first two months, our kittens stay with their mother, who teaches them essential skills like using the litter box and grooming themselves. Through playtime with her, they learn good manners.
2. Free-Roaming Fun: Our kittens are raised in a free-roaming environment within a special kitten kindergarten. Here, they engage in play with other kittens, learning to interact safely and calmly handle surprises. This prepares them to remain relaxed when meeting other cats and dogs in the future.
3. Daily Interaction: Each day, we dedicate time to play with and feed our kittens. This exposure helps them become familiar with the sights, smells, and movements of humans, teaching them that we are friends. With plenty of cuddles and pets, they learn to love human companionship.
4. Nail Trimming: We regularly trim their nails to help them get accustomed to having their paws handled, making them comfortable with being held and touched.

Our goal is to ensure that our kittens grow up happy, healthy, and well-socialized, ready to bring joy to their future families.
