British Shorthair Health and Care Standards

Choosing a British Shorthair breeder is about more than appearance. Health, socialization, transparency, and long-term support matter. We maintain this website to share our cats, care standards, and first-hand experience so families can make an informed decision. BearMary’s registration can be reviewed in TICA’s British Shorthair breeder listing.

Health Checks and Guarantees

Every kitten receives health checks and age-appropriate care before going home. We provide a written health guarantee and make sure each kitten receives FVRCP vaccinations, rabies vaccination, a microchip, and spay or neuter surgery with recovery time before joining the new family.

Nutrition for Healthy Growth

We believe healthy growth starts with strong nutrition. Our kittens are raised on high-quality food, including high-protein options such as Instinct and Orijen, along with raw meat suited to their needs. We transition them gradually from their mother’s milk to the foods they will know before going home.

Litter Box and Home Training

Our British Shorthair kittens are raised in a clean home environment and learn dependable routines early, including proper litter-box use. They also learn normal grooming habits, helping make the transition to their new home smoother and less stressful.

Socialization and Daily Care

We spend time with our cats and kittens every day so they grow up confident around people and other cats. We help them get used to calm handling, regular nail trims, and positive play routines. This daily care builds good manners and makes the transition into your home smoother and less stressful.

British Shorthair Breed: Why So Many Families Love Them

Calm companions with a plush coat and steady temperament

The British Shorthair breed is one of the most popular cat breeds for a reason. These are classic British cat companions with a round face, chubby cheeks, big expressive eyes, and a dense plush coat. They are affectionate and loyal, but not overly demanding.

Calm and gentle temperament

British Shorthair cats are known for being relaxed and steady. They often enjoy family life, do well in homes with children, and can live comfortably with other pets when introduced properly. Their calm company is one of the things I enjoy most during quiet afternoons at home.

Plush coat and stunning appearance

Their short coat is thick and soft, with the breed’s signature teddy-bear look. Our kittens come from champion bloodlines, and we regularly bring our kings, queens, and kittens to cat shows for evaluation against the breed standard and to meet fellow breeders.

British Shorthair Colors in Our Program

Examples from BearMary’s golden and color-focused breeding program

Families ask about blue, black, chocolate, and brown British Shorthairs. Availability depends on each pairing and how the kittens develop.

Our program focuses heavily on golden lines, including golden shaded, golden point, blue golden shaded, black golden shaded, and chocolate golden British Shorthairs.

Chocolate golden coats can show a warm brown tone with a golden overlay. You can review examples among our previous kittens, including chocolate golden shaded and blue golden shaded British Shorthairs. Availability changes from litter to litter as kittens grow, are evaluated, and join their new homes.
